What is a Buttock Augmentation?

Buttock Augmentation is a procedure to enhance the size as well as to restore the youthfulness of the buttocks.  This can be achieved either through the use of fat that are injected into the buttock or through the use of implants.  Those considering having buttocks augmentation should be physically healthy, stable psychologically and also those who seem unsatisfied by the size of their buttocks.

Procedure

The procedures applied in Buttock Augmentation include the lifting of the buttocks or the insertion of an implant. The substance that is used for the implant is an elastomer. The most common type of injection that is used for Buttock Augmentation is the Brazilian butt lift.  This process is usually referred to as the transfer of fat.  The procedure goes beyond fat grafting as it involves the use of a combination of liposuction and also the use of numerous fat injections in the buttocks that require augmentation. The fat that will be injected into the patient’s body is taken from the patient’s body itself. The fat can be harvested from the abdomen, buttock or any part of the body.  The level of the augmentation required will be determined by the level of fat that will be injected into the patient’s body.  The injections are usually at different sites and at different depths.

Implants  

The implants used in place of fat injections are made from a substance that cannot leak; this substance is known as elastomer.  To use an implant, a small incision is made above the muscles located at the sitting area but below the fascia that keeps them safe. After the surgery the incision will heal and there will not be any trace of the incision in the near future. As a result of advancement in technology we find the use of beads of acrylic glass to serve in place of fats.  Theses beads are injected in the same manner the fat is injected.

Risk

Just as in every surgery there is always an element of risk involved in Buttock Augmentation. There have been records of death in the course of Buttock Augmentation; an example is that of Solange Maganon who died in the course of the surgery. The 1994 winner of Miss Argentina died when complications arose from the gluteoplasty that she received to augment her buttocks.  It is believed that gluteoplasty that she was injected with travelled to her brain and lungs and caused her death.

Other risks involved include infection, reaction to the anaesthesia used, risk of getting undesired results and the inability for the blood to clot.
